According to the recent WashingtonPost article, “To pass an Army physical fitness test, an 18-year-old male must be able to do 42 push-ups in two minutes, 53 sit-ups in two minutes and run two miles in 15 minutes and 54 seconds.”
Wow! That is some pretty intense exercise. I am not sure about the push ups, but I think with a little effort I should be able to do the 2 miles in about 18 minutes and the 53 sit-ups in 4 minutes. The article also said that 75% of our 17-24 year olds in the US are ineligible for military service due to poor education, being overweight and other ailments. Wow.. that doesn’t say much for the future of the greatest military of the world.
So how do we fix this problem?
As with everything else, early education, early development, focusing on eating right, and exercise will raise a generation of youth that can join the military or succeed in other areas of life.
