Children Recipes from the World Series: SouthAmerican Baked Corn Tortilla Chips

We made our second recipe for Children Recipes from the World Series today.  We made homemade baked corn tortilla chips.  Now one could say that tortilla chips are mainstream but still they are originally from Central and South America.  In these countries, the chips are mostly used as snacks.  Today we have wide selection of ready made tortilla chips in the market and most of them are deep fried.  Several problems with this, one you do not know how good the oil quality is, two it is very high in fat, and finally it is so much cheaper to make it from corn tortillas instead of buying a packet of chips (our cost for a bag of 12 corn tortillas $0.99) .

Here’s a fun way to make some healthy ( 2 gms of fat vs. 7 gms of fat) corn chips at home.

Here’s the recipe:

1) Buy some corn tortillas from your grocery store and cut them into triangles.

2) Spray oil on them on both sides.

3) Sprinkle salt and any other spices you want to add to the chips.

4) Heat oven to 400F and put the tortillas in the over for 4-8 minutes till they are crisp.

Your chips are ready…..
