Who says you need to be a diet expert or an upper middle class family to provide your children with healthy nutritious food every night. Case in point is Debra, a social worker who lives in Harlem. Even though she has a limited budget, she cooks nutritious food not only for her daughter but also for 10 other kids in her building. She wouldn’t stand for these 10 children eating horrible horrible food. She takes the buses and trains to get to the part of town where fruits and veggies are more available than her local stores.
My hats off to her…..! Thank you for what you do. Perhaps more moms in these areas can group and ask the groercy store to carry more fruits and veggies or they should contact the farmers or coop produce who can mail the fruits and veggies to them on a weekly or a bi-weekly basis. I am going to post something on how people can find such opportunities to get more access to fruits and veggies.
