A sneak preview of the 40th Knott’s Scary Haunt was an EXPERIENCE!!! !!! I had the privilege of experiencing Knott’s Scary Haunt the opening weekend and it was everything that a girl like me who gets scared of things loved and got spooked. It started off with dinner that included a Boysenberry Cocktail. That was delish. We had monsters pay us a visit over dinner. Here’s me getting spooked by my first monster for the evening.

The 40th Knott’s Scary Haunt has almost a 1000 unique actors playing scary characters! The makeup and costumes are incredible. I wonder how long it takes the makeup artist to do their makeups? I would love to have a monster makeover – (note this is going into my life’s bucket list).
Knott’s has 13 mazes to titillate and scare you. I got to try about half of them. The most amazing was “Trapped”. It totally freaked me out. It is a MUST do! It was exhilarating, thrilling and spooky at the same time. Trapped is unique because it requires a reservation, and is the only interactive maze (i.e. you interact with the characters). It is completely WORTH the extra money. (see pricing details at the end of this post)
Trapped leads you into an abyss of your deepest fears and phobias. It is intense, it doesn’t just test your comfort zone, it blows it apart. You are part of the horror around you and an active participant. Only you can control your destiny. You need to come up with an escape hatch for each challenge. I confronted my worst fears when I had to deal with rats, with a morgue that was far more realistic than the TV crime shows. I would love to talk more about it but I don’t want to give anything away. You need to experience this! You also need to sign a liability form to get into Trapped. You need to read the wording. This is some serious stuff.
Along the trip I bonded with a stranger. I had never met GourmetPigs before and here we were working together to get out of the situations we were put in. It worked out. I am utterly grateful that she ate the bug for me. This is us at the “end” of the experience. Don’t we look relieved and happy to be free?
In the second maze, “Delirium”, I got so scared that I ran out of it. One of the characters chased me out to come back in. I sat the second maze out and my husband went it alone. He came out and insisted that I try it again to experience the amazing costumes and makeup. I walked in, the character that initially chased me out of Delirium saw me come in and he applauded and then he spooked me all over again. I got re-spooked! I was fresh meat!! The characters smelled fear – they knew to pick on me right away. Oh well in hindsight I had the time of my life.
Here’s how Knott’s Berry Farm describes Delirium – “In the deep recesses of the mind, on the clouded brink of insanity, lies the hellish wasteland of delirium; a place so gruesome that your imagination fails to comprehend the horrors. Illusion and paranoia are your only anchors to reality. Welcome to your worst nightmare! Anniversary present: The Pillar of Souls.”
For the third maze my husband said he would act scared and scream so the characters would focus on him and leave me alone. It was the most hysterical thing he did. He would scream his head off every time a character approached us. I laughed so hard the entire maze that I had the time of my life. I think I laughed for almost 10 minutes straight. It was during this maze I fell in love with my husband all over again. You see, as a family with young children, we do a lot of activities that focus on the kids, and I do some that focus on me but the “we” activities for the husband and I are pretty much restricted to restaurants and dinner parties, so experiencing the Knott’s Scary Hunt was an amazing experience for us. We were laughing, we were being silly, we were a “team”, and I loved how hubby “protected” me from the monsters.
The thing is even though the mazes are scary, the characters are complete professionals. They know how to push your button and when to back off.
I have not screamed this much EVER! Don’t miss the World’s Best Halloween Party! Go and Experience the Knott’s Scary Haunt for yourself!! See ticket details below. GigaSavy Team – thank you so much for inviting me.
