After studying children aged 4-7 years old, Dutch researchers have concluded the way to get kids to eat more fruits is to make it FLASHY. They found that when fruits are presented in a more visually stimulating way, the kids ate twice as much of the fruits.
Since a small percentage of children consume the daily recommended dose of fruits, perhaps making it look fun and interesting would get more children to eat fruits. However, making flashy food is difficult for most over stretched parents. But there are some quick things you can do to make fruits look attractive in the order to level of difficulty:
- Serve fruits in interesting server ware. How about a colorful bowl or the bday party cups and bowls?
- Use cookie cutters to cut the fruits in interesting shapes.
- Put it on skewers with sharp edges removed. Cut different fruits and add them to skewers. Sure makes for a colorful medley. Instead of putting the skewers flat on a plate – use orange, melon etc to stick the skewers in.
- Use a melon baller to make round balls of fruits. Serve in a popcorn paper container.
